Ingredients

  • 1 cup White vinegar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 20 drops Tea tree essential oil (Natural antiseptic)
  • 10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil (Antibacterial properties)
Safe for: countertops, doorknobs, light switches, non-porous surfaces
Avoid on: marble, granite, natural stone, unsealed surfaces

Why This Recipe Works

Vinegar’s acidity creates an inhospitable environment for many bacteria and viruses. Tea tree oil is a proven natural antiseptic with antimicrobial properties. Eucalyptus oil adds additional antibacterial action and a fresh, medicinal scent.

Instructions

  1. Combine in spray bottle: Add vinegar and water to a clean spray bottle.

  2. Add essential oils: Add tea tree and eucalyptus oils.

  3. Shake well: Shake vigorously before each use as oils separate.

  4. Spray and let sit: Spray surfaces and let sit for 5-10 minutes for best disinfecting action, then wipe clean.

Tips & Variations

  • Boost the power: Add 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol for faster evaporation and extra germ-killing.
  • Thyme oil: Add 10 drops of thyme oil - it’s one of the most antibacterial essential oils.
  • For flu season: Increase tea tree to 30 drops for extra protection.
  • Kitchen safe: Great for kitchen counters - let dry before food contact.

Safety Notes

  • Not EPA-registered: While effective for everyday cleaning, this isn’t EPA-registered for specific pathogens.
  • Let it dwell: Contact time matters - let the spray sit before wiping.
  • Pet caution: Tea tree oil can be toxic to cats in concentrated amounts. Keep cats away until surfaces are dry.
  • Never mix with bleach: Vinegar and bleach create toxic gases.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark place. Use within 1-2 months. A dark glass bottle helps preserve essential oil potency.
