Natural Mold & Mildew Remover
Eliminate mold and mildew without bleach. This powerful natural solution kills mold and helps prevent regrowth.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
- 1/2 cup Water
- 20 drops Tea tree essential oil (Natural antifungal)
- 1/4 cup White vinegar (Use separately, not mixed)
Why This Recipe Works
Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizer that kills mold spores and removes mold stains through a bubbling action. Tea tree oil is a proven natural antifungal that continues working after application to prevent regrowth. The combination provides both immediate kill and long-term prevention.
Instructions
-
Make the spray: Combine hydrogen peroxide, water, and tea tree oil in a spray bottle.
-
Pre-treat with vinegar (optional): For heavy mold, spray vinegar first and let sit 5 minutes. Wipe clean, then proceed.
-
Apply peroxide solution: Spray the hydrogen peroxide mixture directly on mold. Saturate the area.
-
Let it dwell: Allow to sit for at least 10-15 minutes. For heavy mold, leave for up to an hour.
-
Scrub if needed: Use a brush on grout or textured surfaces.
-
Don’t rinse immediately: Let the tea tree oil remain for continued antifungal action. Wipe clean after 30 minutes if desired.
Tips & Variations
- Prevention spray: Use weekly in mold-prone areas to prevent growth.
- For grout: Apply with an old toothbrush and scrub thoroughly.
- Shower curtains: Spray both sides and let dry before using shower.
- Caulk: For moldy caulk, this can help, but severely molded caulk should be replaced.
Safety Notes
- Don’t mix peroxide and vinegar together: Use separately to avoid creating peracetic acid.
- Wear protection: Use gloves and ensure ventilation when cleaning mold.
- May bleach surfaces: Test on colored grout and fabrics first.
- Pet safety: Keep cats away until surfaces are completely dry.
Storage
Store in an opaque bottle away from light. Hydrogen peroxide degrades in light. Use within 1 month for best results.
